Public Education

The public education system across the country does have strengths and weaknesses, but they are different depending on what the person thinks. I personally believe that one flaw is that there are too many people in a classroom per teacher. Students don’t get enough one on one time with the teacher during class time, and are sometimes too busy to come before or after school. I think that the student to teacher ratio should be around 15:1 that way students will have fewer distractions to worry about. Having a smaller class would allow you to be able to know all your classmates and teacher better.
Another weakness in the public education system is that I think there should be quarter test instead of a test after every unit. This will help the students in the long run because they have to retain what they learned throughout the quarter and prove they still remember it on the test. This is what happens in most colleges, they have two to three test in a semester that pretty much determine their grade in the class. I think there should be small quizzes for each unit and the teachers should grade homework so students actually do their homework instead of writing random stuff on it so they get the completion grade.

One last weakness I think that the public education system has is that junior and senior year you should be allowed to choose two or three subjects to focus on and interest you. If you could choose two subjects to focus on and you already know what type of degree you’re aiming for in college you can get a head start on it. I believe that the subjects that kids have no interest for are just a waste of time for them because they don’t try as hard as they would in a class that they like.
